My Great Aunts house slowly being reclaimed by nature taken on my trip to Mexico last year. [1089 X 1080]
Shozo Michikawa was born in Hokkaido, the most northern area of Japan, in 1953. After graduated Aoyama Gakuin University in 1975, he settled his base of ceramics activity to Seto, Aichi. His exhibitions are held widely in Japan and foreign countries like Phillipines, Mongolia, France, USA, and UK.
I started making new drawings with tape: masking tape, medical tape, HVAC duct foil tape… During recent studio time I created a line with monofilament covered in small pieces of artist’s tape. I was heading in one direction when I began, planning to make the line angular using only a few pieces of tape here and there, but then I started covering the whole line and changed course. The dimensional line and map-like quality of the composition are exciting to me. I’m also thinking about biological connections like capillaries, veins, and arteries.
Thanks for reading.
